CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a course for students from all disciplines interested in learning the foundational concepts and basic techniques in digital media production. Topic areas: capturing and editing digital images, capturing and editing digital audio, capturing and editing digital video and interactive multimedia. The course will consist of project based assignments, quizzes and a portfolio project to showcase student work.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

- Discuss software used in digital imaging, audio, video and multimedia
- Research software used in digital imaging, audio, video and multimedia
- Explore software used in digital imaging, audio, video and multimedia

- Create a pod cast using Audacity
- Modify images using GIMP
- Create tutorials using Jing and a word processor
- Construct a portfolio

ASSIGNMENTS
- No late assignments will be accepted.
- Assignments will be turned in using Blackboard.
QUIZZES
Only students who have an excused absence for missing a quiz will be allowed to take a makeup. You must make arrangements for the makeup quiz with your instructor within ONE week following your return to class. If the instructor has not been contacted within TWO WEEKS following your return to class to arrange for a makeup, a grade of ZERO will be assigned for the missed quiz.
There will be 8 chapter quizzes. Each consist of 16 multiple choice questions from the associated chapter. You will have 20 minutes to complete the quiz.

All part components (discussions, assignments, quizzes) are due on the same date at 11:59 PM Central US Time.

EMAIL AND DISCUSSIONS
- Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life when writing emails or posting on the discussion board.
- Use the Blackboard discussion board to ask class or assignment questions.
- I will respond to emails and discussion postings within 48 hours.
I will grade projects within 1 week after the due date.
COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
Students who take this course will need to be responsible to have the following hardware and software:
- A portable flash drive to make a backup of your projects
- Web cam
- Microphone (if not included in web cam)
- High Speed (Broadband) Internet access
- Computer with at least 4 Gigabyte memory
- Word processor software (Compatible with Microsoft Word)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader (http://www.adobe.com)

The university expects all students to engage in all academic pursuits in a manner that is above reproach.

- Copying from another student’s paper, report, computer files, data listings, and/or programs.
- Using (during an exam), materials not authorized by the faculty giving the exam.

- Substituting for another student; permitting any other person; or otherwise assisting any other person to substitute for oneself or for another student in the taking of an examination or the preparation of academic work to be submitted for academic credit.
- Bribing another person to obtain an unadministered exam or information about an unadministered exam.
- Purchasing, or otherwise acquiring and submitting as one’s own work any research paper or other writing assignment prepared by an individual or firm. This section does not apply to the typing of the rough and/or final versions of an assignment by a professional typist.
Collusion: The unauthorized collaboration with another person in preparing work offered for credit.
A grade of 0 will be assigned for the assessment for the first violation and a grade of F will be assigned to the course for the second violation.
COURSE ATTENDANCE POLICY
It is the student’s responsibility to make sure you are officially enrolled in this course. If at any point, you decide to drop the class, it is your responsibility to officially drop. Any student who stops attending class and does not officially drop the course will be given an “F” as the semester grade.
It is essential that you login to Blackboard often to participate in discussions and learning activities.
