Vodcast Tutorial
Summary: Create a vodcast tutorial and post it in the video section of our class social site.Total Points: 100
In this assignment you will use software to capture your computer screen to create a video tutorial. The tutorial will be how to create the content you blogged about in Unit 2.
I use Screencast-O-Matic http://screencast-o-matic.com/ for screen capturing. You can use other software, such as Camtasia Studio, if you like. The directions below, however, are for using Screencast-O-Matic.
First work through your tutorial and type a transcript. (10 points) Your transcript will be everything you say in the video. Save the transcript as a PLAIN TEXT (.txt) file.
Things to include in your tutorial: (Keep the video under 10 minutes)
- Introduction about the software or service you are using. (10 points)
- Description of what you are going to show. (10 points)
- Complete instructions on how to complete the task. (30 points)
Set the size to 1024×768 and test out your microphone (make sure the bars next to the microphone symbol are active). (5 points)
Click Publish to Video File when you finish and save the video to your computer.
Create an account for YouTube, http://www.youtube.com/ You do not need to create a new YouTube account for this class if you already have one.
Upload your video to YouTube. (5 points)
Attach your transcript to your video using the Captions feature. Go to Video Manager, press the Edit button and then the captions button. Browse for you transcript file and select the Transcript option. (10 points)
After you attach your transcript to your video in YouTube, post the video in the video section of our class site using the embed code provided by YouTube. (10 points)
Your rating score:
How others rate your tutorial will determine your rating score for this assignment. You must receive at least 10 ratings. The rating score is meant to encourage students to create engaging content and post in a timely fashion. (5 stars = 10 points, 4 stars = 8 points, 3 stars = 6 points, 2 stars = 4 points, 1 star = 2 points, 10 or fewer ratings (no matter how many stars) = 0 points)
Submit your transcript along with the title of your vodcast in the Blackboard assignments area when you finish.
